Bloody Monday
No, I’m not talking about the anime or the JDorama. I’m talking about the latest news happening that has got everyone glued to their televisions. I’m dubbing this Monday a Bloody Monday.
Today, August 23, 2010, a Monday, Dismissed Sr. Insp. Rolando Mendoza took a majority of Hong Kong nationals and three Filipinos on vacation hostage inside a tourist bus at Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
While watching the news, I could already tell that it wasn’t going to end well. Whenever one of his demands were met, he would let three hostages go. According to the news channel that we watched, the hostage taker was a respectable person when he was still in service. When I found out about his awards in service, the first thing that came to mind was his retirement pay. He only had two years left before he can apply for voluntary retirement. Once he retires, it would’ve been a happy long life ahead.
But I couldn’t help but wonder.
Could the retirement pay have anything to do with the chain of events that led to his dismissal? Thus making him take justice into his own hands?
