CBS’ Computer Literacy Program

In this age and time, it’s a surprise that there are still people who don’t know anything about computers. Last weekend, the Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. and Tsinelas Foundation came together for a worthy cause: a Computer Literacy Program. The Tsinelas Foundation had 25 scholars under their wing and the CBSI was nothing but glad to be part of this good thing.

Call time was at 6AM at the Citilink Terminal. We were supposed to get ourselves settled in at the school by 9:30AM. In preparation for the weekend, I was busy setting up an automatic program to keep my Karma up on Plurk (integrated with Twitter and Facebook, of course!) to make it appear like I was never gone from cyberspace.

Singing Bowls

I’m not a yogi or a Buddhist, but randomly surfing the Internet can get you pretty much anywhere. Including shopping web sites. In my case, the word “singing bowl” got my attention. I mean, how can a bowl sing? A 5-minute research on my favorite search engine gave me the answer. Turns out that the bowls don’t literally sing, but they’re used as a support for meditation, trance induction and prayer.

Thakral Group of Companies Press Launch

March 23, 2010, I was invited along with some of the Cebu Bloggers Society members again to cover the press launch for a new company that’s about to open in Cebu City soon. I’m pretty excited about this since it means more jobs that don’t really involve call centers, meaning it gives Cebuanos more job options other than being call center agents.

The press conference was done at the Coral Room of the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug. Media from local newspapers were also invited to the event and thanks to them, any question that the CBS might have been too shy to ask, they voiced out loud and clearly.

Technopaq Philippines/Thakral Infotech/OrionElec General Manager Mr. Teddy Sumulong welcomed us, introducing the new company that is about to open. The target opening date is this coming June, so the pressure is on since they were still shopping for office spaces when they were here in Cebu. The local newspapers may start publishing job openings from Technopaq Inc. soon as well, so keep on the lookout.

PLDT Watchpad Speedster Bus Launching

Last Friday night, the Cebu Bloggers and I were invited to the launching of the PLDT Watchpad Speedster Bus. The event was held at Formo in the Banilad Town Center. Thanks to Clarence of Everything Ubec by the way for letting me use his picture. *

I’ve never been to Formo til that night. I was late, as usual. Thank goodness, nothing’s began yet when I got there. I saw the cheerleaders running over their routine and some guys holding torches in each hand. The music was blaring and the parking lot in front of the restobar was vacated.

The Cebu Bloggers Society was seated right outside the actual entrance and in front of the projector, so we got to see several reruns of the commercial. For your convenience, here’s the commercial.

PLDT Watchpad goes Live and Loud in Cebu

I am actually looking forward to this event. I was just at Formo, at the Banilad Town Center for the launch of the PLDT myDSL WatchPad. Now, as much as I dislike for being double billed by this company, I realized the organizers of the event has nothing to do with my problem. PLDT and I are working things out with the billing issues.

I’m still contemplating whether or not I’ll make it to the event. I may be still snoring my head off at around this time. If I’m awake, I’ll go. :D

According to the Press Release:

PLDT myDSL WatchPad will officially launch its groundbreaking partnership with local cable channel Real Cebu Television (RCTV) on Sunday, March 28, 2010, 1 p.m. at the Parkmall Grounds. Dubbed LIVE and LOUD, this free event is a celebration of Cebu talent, local culture, technological convergence and the new age of cable and internet television.

Live and Loud will feature a school band competition to be participated by bands from Cebu Doctor’s University, University of the Philippines Cebu College, Cebu Institute of Technology, University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippines, Southwestern University and the University of San Jose Recoletos; with performances from Tambayan – one of RCTVs shows– bands and Cebu’s pride: Cuarenta, Bethany, Pandora, Missing Filemon, Juress, Uno, Lui and the Line Divides which will all be streamed live on http://www.PldtWatchpad.com.

With this unprecedented union of forces, WatchPad now brings the Cebu flavor to the rest of the Philippines with the addition of RCTV to its growing list of channels. RCTV, which airs locally on Channel 36 on Sky Cable and now nationwide through WatchPad, is Cebu’s only infotainment channel that features everything about Cebu- lifestyle, culture, music, people and places. WatchPad subscribers from all over the country can now experience Cebu’s multi-faceted charm by accessing RCTV’s shows for free on their myDSL-powered PCs. “We are very excited about myDSL WatchPad’s partnership with RCTV. There are so many great talents, hot happenings and exciting parties in Cebu and by tying up with RCTV we hope to bring the islands closer through constant innovation and convergence to further revolutionize broadband and internet television” says Myla Villanueva, Senior brand manager of PLDT myDSL.

PLDT myDSL Watchpad, the country’s pioneering internet TV, just keeps on getting bigger and better by giving myDSL subscribers added value through both local, national and international content. PLDT myDSL subscribers can now experience internet TV viewing at its best and the hottest shows from 18 free channels to choose from on their DSL-powered PCs, some of which are not available on local Cebu cable: Channel [V], CNN, National Geographic, E!, PBO, CNBC, Cartoon Network, Animax, History, The Biography Channel, Crime and Investigation, Living Asia, RCTV, Go, Splash, Smart Shopping, TBN-Word, and myView.
