Off to Sumilon We Go!
The title seems pretty inappropriate considering the fact that we’ve already been there, but then again, after reading this post, you might wanna say that phrase when you find out what kind of experience we had at the resort.
This post is in relation to the bloggers’ experience at Maribago Bluewater Cebu and at Sumilon Island. Now how are the two resorts related? Almont Holdings Incorporated (AHI) currently owns and manages Sumilon Bluewater Beach Resort, Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort’s sister resort.
Due to the excitement build up, most of the chosen bloggers did not even get enough sleep before the trip. The agreed time and place to meet up was at 6AM and at SM City Cebu’s Northwing Main Entrance. Only a little more than 30 bloggers were invited to this event, majority of which included the Cebu Bloggers Society.
In fear of getting left behind, I set my alarm to go off at about 4:30AM. Sure, I woke up early, but I got caught up in one of Jehzlau’s puzzles and didn’t get off of my butt until it was almost 5:30AM. I still made it though.
As soon as most of the CBS members met up, the favorite hobby, or dare I say, job of the CBS took place again, camwhoring.
Three white vans picked us up from the meeting place, and we were off! I should’ve been more responsible in keeping track of time, but we were just having so much fun in the van, that we barely even noticed time passing by, until we got to Carcar for a pit stop and for some breakfast. Thanks for the free breakfast, Sir Ruben!
The road to Sumilon Bluewater was not an easy one, it was an enjoyable one, but definitely not an easy one. If you’re the type of person that gets sick after a certain period of time on a van, better ask the driver or the coordinator to stop every now and then or else, bring a barf bag, or a plain plastic bag. Anyways, barfing is healthy as long as you don’t overdo it. It’s only healthy if you need to barf, by the way. I don’t want to give the notion of barfing as a super good thing. About 20 minutes before we arrived at Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort‘s receiving area at the mainland, the curves on the road were making me sick. Sick to the point that I didn’t even know that about three of my companions were feeling the same thing too. I just had to lay down for a few minutes to make sure that I don’t barf in my seat and then all of a sudden I smell something minty in the air and then I hear someone saying that the “SD Card” works.
Turns out that the SD card was Atty. Ethelbert’s minty breath freshener films. I was pretty reluctant to take it, because I was afraid that it would make me want to vomit even more. But as soon as I put the films on top of my tongue, the minty taste immediately took the bad feeling away.
At the main receiving area, we were offered Lemongrass juice and some cold towels to freshen up after the trip. Check out the bird’s nests. We didn’t stay long at the receiving area and proceeded to board the pumpboat that will take us to the island. We were taken for a trip around the island so that we can check out the perimeter and some of the potential spots that we might want to check out. The waves were seriously crashing up and about, but we were still excited, nonetheless.
At the island, we were welcomed warmly by the staff and were taken to the pavilion to meet the Resident Manager of the island resort, Mr. Greg Perral. Sir Greg, thank you so much for having us, it was a pleasure meeting such a good host. A brief orientation took place and while Sir Greg was orienting us, the staff served us some tuna club sandwiches. And I swear, they were the sweetest and most hospitable people that you can come across when in a resort. After the orientation, we went on an ocular inspection of the rooms available. All rooms feature air conditioning, a mini bar, and a very good-looking bathroom which gave me an idea of how I would like my own bathroom to look like.
After some picture taking and some discoveries about the island paradise, we went back to the pavilion to have some lunch. Lunch was served on a buffet table and we were allowed to get as much as we can eat. Chef de Partie Buddy Amodia came to meet us later for some picture taking as well. Thank you so much for the great meal, Chef Buddy!
After lunch, the bloggers were permitted to avail of the Day Tour package which included Kayaking, Trekking, Snorkeling and Canoeing. Since the tide was too low, we weren’t able to go snorkeling, but we did enjoy kayaking and and canoeing. Trekking was out of the question, because we didn’t think we’d have enough time and we wanted to do some swimming. Since we couldn’t go swimming on the protected coral area, we moved on to the shifting sandbar where we challenged the waves until the wind all of a sudden blew too hard and we got caught in a sand storm, which prompted us to stop. Bloggers, please NEVER challenge Mother Nature.
Since we were still up for some swimming, we got off the sandbar and showered up so we can jump into the infinity pool. The water was super cold, but wow, it was really refreshing. After all the activities, when we got back to our tables, freshly cooked carbonara was waiting for us. I’ve heard how delicious carbonara was, but I ended up giving my share to Doyzkie, since he lent me something that allowed me to join in on the fun, which he slurped up in no time.
How ever do you keep your figure, Doyzkie? He never really asked for it, but I just gave my share away because I do not eat pork.
On the way back to mainland Cebu, the bloggers chose their respective vans and being the tired little kittens that we were, we got some little snooze time on the van after some chit-chatting.
