Registration at the PRC – Part 1

For all of you who do not know what PRC is, it’s the acronym for Professional Regulation Commission. In the Philippines, all professionals have to go through this government office to register or file for their respective exams. I had the misfortune of going through such a time in my life. Ok, so maybe I’m exaggerating about being unfortunate. Thing is, to be able to do it in just one day is quite an accomplishment. A lot of people come from different places to go through that office. Filing for the licensure exam is a step towards your dreams coming true for most people.

Have I got a story to tell.

Prior to going to the PRC office here in Cebu City, I have asked and asked an asked about the entire process, but you don’t really know unless you are there. I listed down everything that I was going to need, from the original copies of my documents to the photocopied ones. These are the things that one should have in hand before going to the office.

The Requirements

Original and photocopy of birth certificate
Original and photocopy of Transcript of Records
4 Passport size picture
Community Tax Certificate
1 Documentary Stamp
1 window mailing envelope
PhP900.00 filing fee

The Details

Original and photocopy of birth certificate
You should have a copy of your birth certificate from the National Statistics Office in SECPA, or Security Paper. It’s the copy that is printed on yellow paper. Have it photocopied. You are going to show both to the checker at the office. You will submit the photocopied one, of course. It’s too much of a hassle requesting for another copy of a birth certificate. Besides, it costs Php 125.00 per copy and takes about a week before you get it.

Original and photocopy of Transcript of Records
Get the original from your school. My school records-in-charge already photocopied it three times and had them all authenticated for three different purposes. One was for the board exam, the other was for employment, and the last one for employment for abroad. Take the one for the board exam and photocopy it, just in case you need to take the exam once again. Bring the original and both photocopies.

4 Passport size picture
As much as possible, the picture should not be older than 3 months old. Because a person’s looks can change in that span of time, and well, the guys at PRC do not appreciate it if you don’t look like the person in “your” picture. Bring 4 of them and some glue. The picture should have a white background and your name right underneath your face, or across your chest. If you didn’t bring any copies, you can have your photo taken at the office for PhP 90.00.

Community Tax Certificate
You can get one of these at your local City Hall, for PhP 20.00. Less if you still have your student ID with you, provided of course that it’s still valid. Photocopy it as well.

1 Documentary Stamp
This costs Php 66.25. You can buy this at the office itself, but it’s different for some professions. I’ll elaborate on the next part.

1 window mailing envelope
You can buy this along with the documentary stamp.

PhP 900.00 filing fee
Yes, you have to pay nine hundred pesos. Come up with it as soon as possible.

I’ll post what happens next on the next part. Hopefully I can get everything down in great detail.
